Bloodhound Diary Day 2 – I love my new home! My new mommy and daddy are really great. I have my own food and water bowl, a really nice bed and lots of stuff to chew on and play with. They must really love me ; )
It was strange spending my first night in my new human home. At my old home we all slept in a chain link pen outside. We didn’t have a bed, we just slept in a pile together on the ground. My new family lets me sleep inside the human house. Wow, what a big difference. Its really quiet in here, no annoying bugs buzzing around biting me and its sooo much cooler. I really can’t believe how lucky I am to have found such a good family.
Let me tell you about my day.
In the daytime I get to play alot with my new daddy. Our day starts in the morning just after the sun gets up. He takes me outside to potty (he doesn’t seem to like me to potty in the house). We have a really big yard. Much bigger than the yard at my old house. It seems to go on forever and forever. After I potty he takes me back inside the house where I can eat and drink till I am finished. He never rushes me which I think is nice of him. Then we go back outside and spend some time so I can potty again.
When we are done outside we go back into the house and I play with my toys while he does his work. Every couple hours he takes me outside to potty, then we go back inside where he lets me eat and drink again. It is a very stable routine that is easy for me to learn. I am glad he knows that I have to potty often. Hopefully as I get bigger I will be able to go longer without having to potty. For now it seems he knows what is best for me and what I need as a small bloodhound puppy.
I have 2 new friends that live with me in my new human house. One is Jax. Jax is a Jack Russell Terrier. This is Jax. He is 4 and seems really nice. Sometimes we go outside together and he lets me chase him around the yard. I can never catch him though because he is soooo fast. I hope someday I can be as fast as he is.

Bloodhound Diary Day 1 – Hello, I am Anubis and today is my birthday! Well, it’s kind of my birthday because today I am 2 months old. As a birthday present I got a new family, a bed of my very own and lots of new toys. My new mommy and daddy (aka humans) got them for me. I have some new friends here too.
I kind of miss my bloodhound family. I think about them often. But I think things will be really good here with my new family, my new mommy and daddy love me very much. My new daddy decided he would help me to keep a diary about my life with my new human family so my bloodhound family will know that I am fine. My new daddy is so nice.
Let me start with the story of how I came to be with my new human family.
Before I came to live with my new human family I had a really big bloodhound family. I had a bloodhound mommy and a bloodhound daddy. I knew my Bloodhound mommy best because she took care of me and fed me and kept me safe. I would see my bloodhound daddy mostly during the day around the yard. He played with us some, but it was mostly my bloodhound mommy that spent lots of time with us. I had 3 bloodhound brothers and 6 bloodhound sisters. Some of them had already gone to live with their own new human families before I found mine.
Then one day my new mommy and daddy came to look at me and my brothers and sisters. I didn’t know they would really be my new mommy and daddy but I was hoping and hoping. They stayed for a little while looking at all of us, calling to us, picking up and played with a couple of my brothers and sisters but they didn’t pick me up. Then after a few more minutes they just stood back looking at all of us and talked human talk together. Then they left. I was so sad. After they left, my bloodhound mommy came over to all of us and started licking us telling us that everything was alright. I believed her and the sadness went away.

About The Mind of Anubis : Bloodhound Diaries
We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very bright. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.
While Anubis is growing up, my wife Sudonna and I (Wayne) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective. In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.
Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.

It is getting kinda crowded and messy in there ; /
Bloodhound Diary Day 3 – Every day there are new and wonderful things to smell, eat and meet. Some have been good, some require further investigation and some are just plain bad. I have found that most things I have tasted have been really good. Good things I make sure to store in my bloodhound data-bank (because they are good). Bad things I store in my bloodhound data-bank (because they are bad of course). Ok, I guess everything goes into my bloodhound data-bank.

Bloodhound Diary Day 4 – Today started the same as the others. We woke, we pottied, we ate and drank followed by lots and lots of playing. Even though it was early in the day it was already getting hot so the times we spent outside was shorter than usual. Daddy doesn’t want me to get too hot cause he said it will make me sick. It was ok with me because we can play as much in the house. There is plenty of space and a gazillion (is that a word?) toys to grab.

They must make worn out shoes out of dogs?

Bloodhound Diary Day 6 – Last night while me and my daddy were outside for a late night potty it seemed much brighter than usual. I could see everything so clearly, it was almost as if I were running around in the daytime. My daddy picked me up and pointed my head up toward the big sky and that’s when I saw it. It was so beautiful and bright. Daddy called it ‘the Moon’.

Bloodhound Diary Day 7 – My daddy says I am growing like a weed. It is kinda funny because I don’t think I look anything like a weed. I am feeling bigger though. I am almost big enough to get up on the couch all by myself. I can even run faster and jump higher than I did just a few days ago. But I still trip on my ears sometimes when I am running.

Evil cats are controlling all the eggs.
Bloodhound Diary Day 8 – This morning when I woke daddy had a surprise for me. He said he had a special treat that I could have with my breakfast. This made me really happy because eating is my most favortist of things. So I hurried outside to do my potty thing, sniffed at all my usual sniffing things and hurried back inside for my yummy breakfast.

Bloodhound Diary Day 9 – Today started out the same as most, until we went outside. The sun had just woken up and it was already hot and sticky. Daddy said the humidity must me 90% because the air was heavy. Humidity (ha-ha I know what that is) must have been because after only a few minutes daddy was covered with sweat. I don’t think we will be going very far for a walk today. If we even go.

The dragon absolutely refused to let daddy in.
Bloodhound Diary Day 10 – Potty time has come and gone and breakfast has already been eaten. I was hoping for some more eggs, but daddy said something must be wrong with the chickens. When he went to meet the chicken to get more eggs he was stopped at a big gate, which he said was guarded by a dragon named ‘Maynard’.

No really, I promise not to do it again.
Bloodhound Diary Day 11 – I think I have some Great White Shark DNA in me. Ok, I don’t really think that. It is something daddy has been telling me (I learned all about sharks watching shark week on Discovery with daddy). For some reason I have had this growing urge to taste EVERYTHING. Same as the shark does. Like when they bite something to see if it taste good. If it does then they eat it. If it doesn’t then they just spit it out.

I don’t think dogs could be enslaved by the snakey-in-the-head thingies.
Bloodhound Diary Day 12 – Later in the day while we were tired of play, we watched some Stargate SG-1 together on the couch. That is one of my favorite shows. Though SG-1 is always good (I like Stargate Atlantis too!), I often wonder why they never have a bloodhound on the team. After all, we can smell those snakey-head thingies from a mile away.

Daddy looked at me with a face of stone. He was immune.
Bloodhound Diary Day 13 – Confusion came over me. This usually works on daddy. This is when he gives in and hands me a yummie telling me what a good dog I am. Ok, time to think. I stepped back and bounced at his feet letting out a yip and a bark. I wagged my tail as fast as I could whining in a smaller voice this time.

Time for a 2 week puppy review – Part 1 of 2
Bloodhound Diary Day 14 – It has been two weeks, so daddy and I figured it was time for a review of what I have learned. So much time has passed where do I begin? Ok, two weeks may not seem like much time to you, but when you are only 10 weeks old (like I am) it seems like forever. Lets get started.

Time for a 2 week puppy review – Part 2 of 2
Bloodhound Diary Day 15 – In part 1 we reviewed everything I learned during my first 7 days. This part (part 2) will be a review of the important things I have learned during the last 7 days (day 8 – 14). I hope that other puppies out there will find these lessons helpful and will share what they have learned with their mommy and daddy.

I didn’t know butter could fly.
Bloodhound Diary Day 16 – You would think that the hot sun would make them fly slower, cause of the melting. More interesting. I just had to catch one and taste it! MMmmmmmm butter. Sadly, I never did. The melting didn’t seem to slow them down at all. Stupid butterflies.

This is Angel. Ain’t she pretty?
Bloodhound Diary Day 17 – They are both so much bigger than me. If they fell on me they would squish me flat. If I got lost in a wrinkle, it may take me days to find my way back out. That’s how big they are. Let me show you the girls.

Hey! Could that be a . . . go go gooooo!
Bloodhound Diary Day 18 – Daddy and I headed out for our walk this morning, enjoying the breeze. It was beautiful. Taking advantage of our good luck, we took an extra long walk. Sniffing along the way I smelled all the familiar scents. Here was an ant hill, they smelled a bitter and dry. Hmmmmm fireants. There was a place where a cat had laid down in the tall grass, probably hunting field mice. Run mice run.

This tiny voice was calling to me.
Bloodhound Diary Day 19 – About halfway down the long road, our trip changed from ‘the usual’ to ‘the unbelievable’ because I started hearing a voice. I could hardly make out the words, even with my ears (which are pretty impressive). Daddy says I should be able to hear life on mars with my ears.

I really like the picture, it made me and my daddy laugh.
Bloodhound Diary Day 20 – I had just settled down to gnaw on my favorite bone when daddy told me I had some email I needed to get answered. Me? Email? I thought about this for a few minutes and drew a complete blank. I had no idea what email was. Then my daddy showed me.
