Zootoo Anubis Bloodhound Diary Day 20 – Today is starting out to be a busy day. After helping my daddy around the house this morning, we had breakfast then headed out for our morning walk. Even though it was still early, it was already getting hot. And the humidity was terrible.

When we got back home, daddy decided this would be a play inside day. This was fine with me because the short time we were outside already made me feel like I was starting to melt. Daddy tells me that melting would make me have more wrinkles, and I already have enough of those.

What the heck is email?

I had just settled down to gnaw on my favorite bone when daddy told me I had some email I needed to get answered. Me? Email? I thought about this for a few minutes and drew a complete blank. I had no idea what email was. Then my daddy showed me.

Ahhhh. Something to do with the box on the desk. So that’s what that thing is for.

He showed me what this email thing was. Then he proceeded to read the ones that had been sent to me out loud so I would know what they were about. They were from people who had read about me and decided to write me to say hello. What a nice thing for someone to do.

One of the emails was from a nice woman who had read about me on a website called Zootoo, a pet community site. She made this funny picture of me with other animals and things. What a nice thing to do.

I really like the picture, it made me and my daddy laugh.

Daddy said he would help me to answer the email. I was glad to hear that because I don’t know how to, and even if I did know how to, I think my paws are too big for typing. Daddy says he doesn’t have a ‘dog friendly’ keyboard.

After answering the email we spent some time playing, then watched a movie together. I don’t remember most of it because I fell asleep. Daddy thought I might be extra tired so he let me stay asleep. I guess answering the email wore me out.

We ate an early dinner, then braved the heat for our evening walk. Rain looked like it was heading our way so we kept it short. I think the weather was keeping everything inside because we didn’t find anything interesting on our walks today.

Oh no! Giant green apple invasion . . . runnnnnn!

This tiny voice was calling to me. Bloodhound Diary Day 19 – Today was another beautiful day. The weather was warmer, but tolerable. There was no sign of rain, and there was a slight breeze.

After spending some time playing in the yard, daddy and I headed out for our walk toward the big hayfield. The trip was going like it always does, I sniffed the sniffables, chased the chaseables and ran after any scent I found of a would be hiding squirrel. Daddy was never far behind.

About halfway down the long road, our trip changed from ‘the usual’ to ‘the unbelievable’ because I started hearing a voice. I could hardly make out the words, even with my ears (which are pretty impressive). Daddy says I should be able to hear life on mars with my ears.

This tiny voice was calling to me.

I stopped in the road looking back at daddy, hoping it was him talking to me. He called to me ‘come here boy’. Hmmmm, the voice was different than his. Higher pitched, just above a whisper. This is just plain weird. I shook my head, positive I was hearing things. Probably just the wind playing with my imagination.

Silly me, must be watching too many movies with daddy. Realizing it is all my imagination I was relieved. Then I heard it again, louder this time. This tiny voice calling to me. Ok, this might be a problem.

Maybe I ate something bad for me? Something that is making me hear the voice in my head? I started thinking of anything I picked up or tasted while we were walking. Let’s see . . . pine cone, piece of tall grass, one-two-no-3 sticks (so far).

These are all things I have played with before, so why would they make hear things now?

You guys can talk?

Just when I thought my brain would melt from all the thinking, this teeny tiny thing started to buzz around my head. It seemed the same as all the other annoying buzzing flying things, so I didn’t give it much thought. Till all of the sudden, the voice was much louder. It was so loud that it scared me, stopping me in my tracks.

Little bit windy today. Bloodhound Diary Day 18 – We woke to a beautiful day! It was sunny but dry, with an occasional gust of wind bringing in more cool dry weather.

September was closing in on us, I can smell it on the wind. It is a sweet smell. With the heat gone we will have more outside time. Yaayyy!

Daddy and I headed out for our walk this morning, enjoying the breeze. It was beautiful.

Taking advantage of our good luck, we took an extra long walk. Sniffing along the way I smelled all the familiar scents. Here was an ant hill, they smelled a bitter and dry. Hmmmmm fire ants. There was a place where a cat had laid down in the tall grass, probably hunting field mice. Run mice run.

Hey! Could that be a . . . go go gooooo!

Daddy didn’t rush us. We strolled and sniffed for a very long time. Occasionally I would stumble onto the scent of a squirrel and I would burst away from daddy, hoping to finally get a look at one, only to slide to a stop at the base of a big tree and . . . missed again! No matter how fast I ran it seemed the squirrels were always a step ahead of me.

Ok sneaky fast squirrel. Just you wait. My legs are growing longer every day. Longer is faster and faster means I will catch you yet. Wait and see, oh yes, wait in see little sneakies. Stupid squirrels.

No no them again, anything but them.

When we got home daddy decided to pull a little sneaky of his own. We went through our front gate and I heard daddy say the familiar ‘get to the house boy’. That’s all I needed to hear, I was off like a flash. When I reached the porch stairs I leaped and bounded to the top. Grinning, I turned and looked at daddy.

Daddy smiled and stopped at the bottom of the stairs. I cocked my head in curiosity. Usually we go in the house and I get a nummy-num about now. Maybe daddy is stuck. Going to the top of the stairs I let out a bark, then turned and trotted back to the door. Waiting. He didn’t move.

Was daddy broken? Did he fall asleep? His eyes were open, so sleep was not the problem. I barked again, looking back at the door. More waiting. I really wanted my tasty nummy. What could be wrong?

Finally daddy called me back to the top of the stairs. He coaxed me closer, then put his hand on the top step and said ‘come on boy, you can do it’. Ugh! So that’s what this is all about. He is going to make me fall down the stairs before I get my nummy. So unfair.

I whined at him and lowered my head. I tried to look as helpless as possible. If he felt sorry for me maybe he will let me go inside. ‘Come on boy’ he said again, tapping the stair with his fingers. Then he did something evil, very evil. Bad evil daddy.

He placed my nummy on the stair and called to me again. Oh the smell of it! It was there, right there out of reach! Bad daddy. My tummy growled, so hungry. I must have the nummy.

Concentrating as hard as I could, I lowered my paw to the first step. It touched the nummy, making me want it more. I lowered my nose. No use, it was still out of reach. Carefully I lowered my second paw. If I stretch enough I just . . . might . . . reach.

Evil, evil daddy.
