Bloodhound Diary Day 8 – This morning when I woke daddy had a surprise for me. He said he had a special treat that I could have with my breakfast. This made me really happy because eating is my most favortist of things. So I hurried outside to do my potty thing, sniffed at all my usual sniffing things and hurried back inside for my yummy breakfast.
As I sat at my bowl I watched him making my food. I wondered and wondered what it could be. He said ‘ok boy, it should be ready for you now’ and placed my bowl down for me to eat. I looked and sniffed and sniffed and looked but didn’t have a clue what this treat was. It was warm, soft and smelled like something I never smelled before.
Daddy must have known that I wasn’t sure about this new treat in my bowl because he said ‘these are scrambled eggs, they will make you grow strong’.
Evil cats are controlling all the eggs.
I sniffed a little more and decided to give it a try and guess what, they were really tasty. As I was eating them he further explained that eggs were high in protein which was good for my muscles and coat. Then he said something that really surprised me, he said that chickens gave them to us.
I didn’t know that daddy knew a chicken.
Ok, I agree they were yummy and seemed to empty from my bowl faster than I wanted. But I was a little confused about some things. The first was hey, what are muscles (maybe he means my stomach muscle cause that’s where the eggs were going)? This other thing had me the most confused . . . If chickens gave him the eggs, then where do the chickens get them? Maybe they got them from squirrels or maybe even some evil cats are controlling all the eggs.
I could not be sure about the squirrels but the cats were a real possibility. Egg controlling sounds like something only a cat would do. Stupid cats.
I thought about these things while I ate.
I finished the eggs, drank some water and was ready to go outside again. Instead of having another short potty time daddy decided we could go for a walk to enjoy the morning before it got hot.
I thought and thought while I walked and walked and still had no answers. I wanted to ask my daddy but I can’t talk human talk yet and his dog talk is not as good as mine. But he tries real hard ; )
Finally I decided it would be best to just wait till I could meet a chicken and ask them. We might get lucky on one of our walks and find one who is giving away more of his eggs. That would be the best! Of course if the chicken tells me the cats really were in control of all the eggs, that would be bad.
I don’t think a cat would ever give me an egg, even if I pretended to be a chicken. Even the most stupidest of cats would never believe I was a chicken. I am pretty sure the ears would make him suspicious and give me away.
Hopefully soon daddy will see his friend the chicken again and get more eggs for a breakfast. I guess I will know when I see them in my food bowl. Unless I meet a chicken first.
If you enjoy reading about Anubis, he would be happy to hear from you.![]()

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:
We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.
While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.
In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.
Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
