Bloodhound Diary Day 7 – This has been a very busy week. I learned many things and had a lot of fun with daddy. I have become comfortable in my new home and have made lots of new friends.
My daddy says I am growing like a weed. It is kinda funny because I don’t think I look anything like a weed. I am feeling bigger though. I am almost big enough to get up on the couch all by myself. I can even run faster and jump higher than I did just a few days ago. But I still trip on my ears sometimes when I am running.
Maybe my ears are growing faster than my legs?
The porch stairs are easier to climb than they used to be but I am still too scared to go down them. I will have to keep working on that one. If I am lucky, I will learn to do that this week with my daddy’s help.
Ready or not here I come!
We played a new game while walking to get the mail today. Daddy called it ‘hide-and-seek’. It wasn’t hard to learn at all. One of us hides while the other is not looking (peeking is not allowed). We take turns hiding.
Daddy says that the one not looking should count to 10 before looking for the one hiding. He says that gives them plenty of time to find a good spot. I don’t know how to count to 10 yet so I just closed my eyes till I think it would be 10.
My daddy is pretty fast so I don’t think he ever needed all that time anyway.
Daddy hid first and I counted (ok, I pretended to count). I tried not to peek. It was hard but I kept my eyes closed almost the whole time.
1-2-8-10 Ready or not here I come!
When I thought it was 10 I started looking for him. I just knew it would be easy because he is so big. I was sure that he would find it hard to hide all of himself.
Besides, I am a bloodhound and I have a secret power.
How could he possibly hide from my super-sniffer? This will be sooo easy I almost felt bad for daddy.
There was just no way for him to hide from my super sniffability. Silly daddy for thinking he could.
So while daddy was hiding I looked.

And I looked.

Then I looked some more. I was looking hard but where could he be?

Ok, my daddy wins the ‘big sneaky’ award ; / This game was much harder than I thought it would be. Daddy says its cause he learned to be sneaky watching squirrels. I believe him.
Stupid squirrels.
Finally when I was about to give up I found him ; ) He cheered me petting me lots and lots. I was happy to have finally found him even though I think he let me.
Then it was my turn to hide. Daddy covered his eyes and started counting to 10. I ran as fast as I could already knowing the best place to hide. Somewhere he would never find me . . . the very tall grass (well it looks very tall to me).

I stayed quiet, careful to keep my head down. I just knew I found the best place to hide. I tried not to peek, afraid I would give my hiding spot away. But it was really hard and I peeked anyway. I just had to know where daddy was looking and if he was getting close. He was moving so quietly that I could not hear him.

While I was peeking for him he was sneaking up behind me. He scared me when he found me. Sneaky daddy.

We playing hide-and-seek for a little longer. It was fun, but I was getting tired so daddy decided it was time to head back home. Soon it would be time for dinner.
All this running and playing made me hungry. Eating is my favorite time of the day next to playing. I couldn’t wait to get home. Dinner would be ready soon. Mmmmmm dinner.
If you enjoy reading about Anubis, he would be happy to hear from you.![]()

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:
We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.
While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.
In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.
Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
