Hello, My Name is Anubis Bloodhound Diary Day 4 – Today started the same as the others. We woke, we pottied, we ate and drank followed by lots and lots of playing. Even though it was early in the day it was already getting hot so the times we spent outside was shorter than usual. Daddy doesn’t want me to get too hot cause he said it will make me sick. It was ok with me because we can play as much in the house. There is plenty of space and a gazillion (is that a word?) toys to grab.

Cats are a four letter word!

On one of our trips outside I saw something really really cool. It was something I had never seen before! They were small furry creatures, definitely NOT dogs. They had funny looking fur, pointed ears and lots of sharp teeth. Oh, and they had small noses.

They moved slow and carefully. Then it hit me. They were moving slow and carefully because they were sneaking. Yesss sneeeeaaakking. That could mean only one thing. . . they were SQUIRRELS! I was sooo happy I finally saw one. Let me show you.

NOT a squirrel! This is an Evil CatI was thinking these squirrels were much bigger than I imagined. How could I not have seen them till now when, as I got closer I realized something was strange about these squirrels. They smelled funny. They didn’t smell anything like what I had smelled on our walks near the big trees. I was getting confused.

As I eased closer being careful not to scare them off I heard my daddy say ‘well hey kitty’. Then he looked at me and told me that these were cats and to be careful. Hmmmm cats. New friends to play with. So I kept easing closer to these 2 cats wagging my tail and trying to look friendly till we touched noses. At first one of them made this strange purrrrrrrrr sound and I got a little scared. Then I thought well if it was a growl to try to scare me that it was a pretty weak one. So there was nothing to fear so I felt better. I sniffed and sniffed the cat and it rubbed against my face. I was sooo happy. Someone to play with outside ; )

Then the bad thing happened.

I thought I would tug a bit on its tail to let it know that I wanted to play with it, when all of the sudden these giant claws came out of nowhere and stuck me right in the nose! I jumped and yelped and cried and yelped. Daddy came over to me and picked me up trying to make me feel better but it was horrible.

Once I was able to calm down daddy put me back down. I fully intended to give that ‘cat’ a piece of my mind but they were gone. Not a sign of them anywhere. I guess they must have realized that I was a far superior species and decided to run and hide while they had the chance. After all, I am a bloodhound and they are just funny looking things that go around pretending to be squirrels.

Squirrels may be sneaky sneaky, but cats are evil.

So for all of you out there, if you are ever trying to make friends with a squirrel and you get hit in the nose with giant claws you will know. It was not a squirrel, it was an evil evil cat (probably pretending to be a squirrel).

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:

We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.

While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.

In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.

Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
