Bloodhound Diary Day 3 – Every day there are new and wonderful things to smell, eat and meet. Some have been good, some require further investigation and some are just plain bad. I have found that most things I have tasted have been really good. Good things I make sure to store in my bloodhound data-bank (because they are good). Bad things I store in my bloodhound data-bank (because they are bad of course). Ok, I guess everything goes into my bloodhound data-bank.
It is getting kinda crowded and messy in there ;/
I like the food my daddy puts in my bowl. I like the treat he gives me in the morning after potty time or when I do something good. I liked something my daddy gave me that he called ‘pizza crust’. . . OMG it was sooo good (too bad he only gave me a little)! My daddy said that all pizza is made in heaven and delivered to earth on the wings of angels. He is daddy so he must be right. He even gave me something called a ‘fish stick’ though I am not sure if it tasted better than it smelled or smelled better than it tasted. Both are so much fun.
My daddy says it is best for my growth and development to keep me on a stable and predictable diet. This would be the food he puts in my bowl. He says that it is not only nutritious for me (whatever that means), but it aids in regulating my bowel and digestion making it easier for me to potty train on a predictable schedule. Lots’a words there I don’t understand but I am sure my daddy does. He always knows whats good for me.
This is why anything he gives me as a ‘treat’ is given only in small portions and usually as a reward. Treats, when given on occasion and only in small portions are less likely interfere with eating my real dinners. They are also less likely to irritate my bowel causing me to become uncomfortable with gas or to develop a runny or loose stool when I potty. This will make me have to go potty at unpredictable times increasing my chances of having a bad (and stinky) accident in the house. He says it will also make me feel not so good.
This is stuff my daddy said I should be kept completely away from.
Things that my human daddy said are really bad for me and why they are bad.
See, I told you my daddy knows whats best for me ; )
Well I have to go now. My daddy is getting ready to take me for a walk to get the mail. Since we live out in the country, getting the mail is not a small thing. Daddy says the mailbox is about 1/4 mile from the house so it will be just over 1/2 mile walk. He said it usually takes about 20 minutes (whats a minute??). Sometimes it takes longer depending on how much sniffing I do along the way. It is a nice walk because there is no traffic and its quiet. Daddy says if I am lucky I might get to see a squirrel. I know they are there because I can smell where they cross the road and climb up trees. But I have not seen one yet. My daddy says it is because they are very very sneaky.
Stupid sneaky squirrels.
If you enjoy reading about Anubis, he would be happy to hear from you.![]()

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:
We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.
While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.
In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.
Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
