Misty Morning Bloodhound Diary Day 21 – Today started out the same as usual. First was our journey out into the soupy, humid yard for a brief potty (much to my relief). Followed by a breakfast of Puppy Chow with a blend of beef Purina canned food. Oh, how I love the smell of that stuff.

When I finished filling my bottomless bloodhound pit, daddy took me outside for an early morning walk. I really love our long, frequent walks. They have helped me in so many ways.

Here are a few . . .

- Walks have helped me to control my chewing fetish (daddy says walking reduces stress).
- Walks have helped me to have good muscle development.
- Walks have helped me have a strong, healthy heart and lungs.
- Walks have provided me and daddy lots’a time together for bonding and training.
- Walks have helped me exercise my brain making me more of a bloodhound genius.

And my most favorite . . . our walks have helped me develop really good butt muscles. I know they look good because I heard Angel and Jasmine talking about how good it looked the other day. Daddy calls me a ‘chick magnet’. I may be if I knew what those were.

Someone stole all the hay!

While we were dog-paddling our way through the thick morning fog, I began to think my daddy was going the wrong way. When we came out to the big hayfield it wasn’t there anymore. Ok, the field was still there but all the hay was missing. What a horrible thing!

How can I go running through all the tall grass when I am taller than the grass? Who would want to take it all? It’s bad enough we are robbed of all our nummy tasty eggs for breakfast, now the hay is gone too.

I looked at daddy, but he didn’t appear to seem unhappy about it. Not one bit. I don’t think he had anything to do with it, or did he? Maybe he hasn’t noticed it yet. I started running out into the field, jumping and barking, trying to get his attention.

Looking at me, he followed me into the field. Still, he didn’t seem to have any problem with the missing hay. Ugh! I guess my time running through the tall grass is over. How sad.

My happiness went away, lost with all my beautiful smelly tall grass. Hanging my head, I followed my daddy till we got back home. My world was falling apart around me and there seemed to be nothing I could do.

Monsters in the hay-field!

Hay Eating Monster Later in the day, after a movie and some playtime with daddy, we went for another walk. The sun had scared away all the fog, leaving the air hot and dry. The hot was bad, but the dry was good. Now we will be able to see everything better, hoping this would help me learn more about the missing hay.

As we approached the big field, I heard this grumble-rumble noise that was new to me. Putting my sniffer high in the air I caught the smell of something strange. It smelled mean. Slowing down a little, I fell behind daddy letting him go first.

And then I saw it. It was huge and it looked and sounded really angry.

I watched from between daddy’s legs as this giant beast was crawling along eating up all the hay. It ate and ate, what a pig it was. Then it stopped and spit out a huge ball. I looked across the field and saw lots of these balls scattered everywhere. Then I thought, ewwwwwwwww! Could that possibly be monster potty?

How strange. Maybe it was like the creepy spider monster, wrapping the hay up so it could eat it again later? Oh no! What if it sees me and daddy. It might chase us down and wrap us up too. We should hide.

I started barking, jumping up on daddies legs. He was just standing there watching. I barked and barked, jumping and chewing at his fingers. Surely the finger chewing will get his attention.

He looked at me and bent down petting me, telling me ‘hold on boy’. As he stood back up I saw the big hay-eating monster was slowly moving toward us. Time for me to go and hope that daddy will come to his senses and follow me.

Make like a tree and leave.

I ran to the nearest tree and hid behind it. Daddy was still watching the monster as it came closer and closer to him. He was doomed. Remembering what happened to my friend Buzzel, I felt sick and sad at the same time. Daddy’s gonna get eaten and there is nothing I can do but watch.

When it looked like the big monster was just about to eat daddy, it stopped. Even the sound was gone. I was thinking maybe my daddy scared it, when I saw the monster open up and a human jumped out.

This day keeps getting more weird by the minute.

The human man came over to daddy, they shook hands and started talking. Unsure of what to do, I stayed in my hiding place where I was safe. A few minutes later, they shook hands again and the man went back to the big beast.

Getting back inside, the grumbling-rumbling started again and the monster started crawling away. Now I understood. The hay-eating monster is the mans pet, he must have captured and tamed it. The man must be very brave cause that is a giganormous monster.

I bet my daddy helped him. The other man doesn’t look like he can tame a beast like that all on his own. Daddy can ; )

Daddy called me to him. Felling safer, I followed him up to our mailbox. The monster was far away now, eating and spitting. Boy that thing could eat.

Hay Balls After getting our mail from the box (how does the mail get in the box and why cant the box just bring it to the house? I may never know.), daddy showed a place where bunches and bunches of spitted hay-balls were lined up.

He told me that the man was getting it ready to be taken away. Confused why a man needs hay-balls for, daddy continued telling me about how they feed these ‘hay bails’ to cows, horses and sheep.

Ahhhhhhhh, this is starting to make sense to me now. The sheep eat this. I understand. I guess I will learn what a cow and horse are later, but the sheep I am fine with. Glad I am not a sheep who has to eat monster-spit covered hay. Poor sheep.

Glad to be home.

After such a big day I was glad to get back home. The monster should be gone by the time we go down there again. I would hate for it to get away from the man and go on an eating spree while I am anywhere near. Who knows what a monster will do when it’s on the loose. Stupid monster.

The rest of the day was calm. I played, followed by more play. We watched another movie, this one about humans. No monsters, no aliens, no scary dead things. What a boring movie.

We had a late dinner, something called shepherds pie. Daddy let me have some with my puppy food. It was very good. Humans really know how to make good food. They know how to share it too. What a lucky bloodhound I am.

After dinner I played a while with my toys while mommy and daddy did mommy and daddy things, and Cassy and Jax napped on the couch. They missed out on some good toy chewing and chasing. It really wore me out. I am a tired bloodhound now.

Well, its time for me to go to bed. Tomorrow will be here soon, hopefully with no monsters in it.

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:

We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.

While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.

In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.

Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
