Bloodhound Diary Day 2 – I love my new home! My new mommy and daddy are really great. I have my own food and water bowl, a really nice bed and lots of stuff to chew on and play with. They must really love me ; )
It was strange spending my first night in my new human home. At my old home we all slept in a chain link pen outside. We didn’t have a bed, we just slept in a pile together on the ground. My new family lets me sleep inside the human house. Wow, what a big difference. Its really quiet in here, no annoying bugs buzzing around biting me and its sooo much cooler. I really can’t believe how lucky I am to have found such a good family.
Let me tell you about my day.
In the daytime I get to play alot with my new daddy. Our day starts in the morning just after the sun gets up. He takes me outside to potty (he doesn’t seem to like me to potty in the house). We have a really big yard. Much bigger than the yard at my old house. It seems to go on forever and forever. After I potty he takes me back inside the house where I can eat and drink till I am finished. He never rushes me which I think is nice of him. Then we go back outside and spend some time so I can potty again.
When we are done outside we go back into the house and I play with my toys while he does his work. Every couple hours he takes me outside to potty, then we go back inside where he lets me eat and drink again. It is a very stable routine that is easy for me to learn. I am glad he knows that I have to potty often. Hopefully as I get bigger I will be able to go longer without having to potty. For now it seems he knows what is best for me and what I need as a small bloodhound puppy.
I have 2 new friends that live with me in my new human house. One is Jax. Jax is a Jack Russell Terrier. This is Jax. He is 4 and seems really nice. Sometimes we go outside together and he lets me chase him around the yard. I can never catch him though because he is soooo fast. I hope someday I can be as fast as he is.
Jax is always happy and has so much energy. He loves to be anywhere my new daddy is. Jax has to take medicine right now. Daddy says that Jax has summertime allergies (whatever that is). I hope summer will be over soon so Jax won’t have to take medicine anymore. I think we will become good friends.
I am happy to have my new friends. It makes it easier for me to get used to the new family. A couple friendly canine faces also helps me feel a little less lonely after having been recently separated from all my bloodhound brothers and sisters. They both appear very happy living with our human mommy and daddy and seem to always know exactly what to do all by themselves, which makes mommy and daddy proud. I wanna be just like them when I grow up.
My other friend is a Terrier (mix of some kind). Her name is Cassy and she is 7. This is Cassy. She might be nice, but I am not sure. I am kinda scared of her. She likes to growl and show her teeth if I get too close. I am really careful NOT to go near her toys. She doesn’t like to share. I hope that some day she decides to play with me (but I am not going to hold my breath).
At night when it is time for bed Jax and Cassy sleep in the laundry room. They each have a bed in there and usually go to bed all by themselves after they go outside for the last potty of the night, which my new daddy says is about 11:30pm. I have not learned to tell time yet so I will have to trust that he can.
Daddy has a large doggy crate for me with my bed inside. That’s where I sleep after the 11:30pm potty. My daddy usually comes to get me at around 3:00am (unless I whine a bit earlier to tell him how bad I have to go) to take me outside to potty. I try my best not to potty in my doggy crate where I sleep. After he takes me potty I get a drink and nibble some food if I want, then he takes me back to bed. It was really strange sleeping in the crate at first, but I am getting used to it. It’s warm and comfortable and my daddy lets me sleep with some of my toys.
When the sun gets up its time for us to start our new day. My daddy has made it easy for me to learn what I need to do and watches me carefully when I am playing. Our regular potty schedule has helped me to keep from having accidents in the house. My new mommy is really happy about that.
I love my new human family.

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:
We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.
While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.
In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.
Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
