This morning was the beginning of another hot miserable day. Bloodhound Diary Day 11 – This morning was the beginning of another hot miserable day. The temperature has broke 100 again so outside time will be limited. Still hoping to have a word with the sheep if I get the opportunity.

The last couple of mornings daddy has been adding several heaping tablespoons of Pedigree canned dog food to my dry Purina Puppy Chow. He has been blending it well and giving it to me for breakfast. All I can say is YUM!

I don’t know what magical things they put in that canned food, but the smell of it drives me wild. And the taste . . . MMMmmmMMMmmmmm It is almost yummier than pizza crust. Almost ; )

No really, I promise not to do it again.

I think I have some Great White Shark DNA in me. Ok, I don’t really think that. It is something daddy has been telling me (I learned all about sharks watching shark week on Discovery with daddy). For some reason I have had this growing urge to taste EVERYTHING. Same as the shark does. Like when they bite something to see if it taste good. If it does then they eat it. If it doesn’t then they just spit it out.

Well, I am not doing the chewy spitting thing. I am only guilty of the chewing tasting thing. I just can’t help myself. This whole tasting chewing thing started a couple days ago. Daddy has been pretty good about it so far, but today he sat me down for a ‘big dog’ talking to.

I know, I am bad. I can't help myself. While he was talking he was pointing at things and pointing back at me. He would point at something and say NO! Bad! Then he would show me a chewy toy and tell me to chew on it if I wanted to chew something.

The big dog talk went on for a few minutes. Funny thing is, each time daddy would point at things I am not supposed to chew, then point back to me, all I could think of is how chewy his fingers looked.

MMmmmm chewy fingers.

I caught myself starting to reach out to nibble at his fingertips as if I were hypnotized. It was an irresistible urge. Lucky for me I managed to stop myself. I don’t think daddy knew what I was thinking. Close one.

That would have been a really big NO! Bad!

I know, I am bad. I can’t help myself. It is pretty clear that this bad chewy urge is something I need to work on. Maybe I will ask Jax how he stopped chewing everything. Mommy said he was bad at chewing when he was my age. Me and Jax are pretty good friends now. He will help me.

Daddy says bloodhounds are notorious for eating things they are not supposed to (just like sharks do). He says every now and then there are cases bad enough, requiring the bloodhound to go to a Veterinarian to have their stomach surgically opened and emptied. Ewwwwww.

I don’t want that to ever happen to me. Not me no way!

I think I am going to go see if I can find Jax. Not because I think he will be chewy, cause he might be, I just need to get his advice before I chew anything else.

I want my mommy and daddy to be proud of me ; )

If you enjoy reading about Anubis, he would be happy to hear from you.

A Note from my Mommy and Daddy:

We selected Anubis after much consideration. He is beautiful, healthy and seems to be very intelligent. We are looking forward to helping him reach his potential as a bloodhound and as a member of our family.

While Anubis is growing up, my wife and I (aka the human mommy and daddy) thought it would be interesting to chronicle his growth, learning and development as seen from ‘his’ perspective.

In addition to being entertaining, we also felt this may help others who desire to have their own bloodhound in understanding not only the development of a dog, but specific issues which may pertain to the bloodhound breed.

Bloodhounds are a wonderful breed. You are welcome to contact us if you have any questions.
